Estes pain\u00e9is cont\u00eam c\u00e9lulas fotovoltaicas, normalmente feitas de materiais semicondutores como sil\u00edcio, que s\u00e3o especificamente concebidas para absorver a luz solar.<\/p>\n<p>Quando os fot\u00f5es atingem o semicondutor, transferem a sua energia para os eletr\u00f5es do interior do material. Esta energia faz com que os eletr\u00f5es se libertem dos seus \u00e1tomos, criando uma corrente el\u00e9trica \u00e0 medida que estes eletr\u00f5es livres se deslocam atrav\u00e9s do semicondutor. A corrente gerada nesta fase tem a forma de corrente cont\u00ednua (DC).<\/p>\n<p>No entanto, a maioria das casas e empresas funciona com eletricidade de corrente alternada (AC), que \u00e9 diferente da eletricidade DC produzida pelos pain\u00e9is solares.
