S\u00e3o constitu\u00eddas por uma placa met\u00e1lica de chumbo e antim\u00f3nio com carga negativa (\u00e2nodo), uma mistura de \u00e1gua e \u00e1cido sulf\u00farico (eletr\u00f3lito) e uma placa de di\u00f3xido de chumbo com carga positiva (c\u00e1todo). Quando colocadas na mistura, estas placas come\u00e7am a produzir eletricidade.<br \/>\nS\u00e3o ideais para o armazenamento de energia solar devido \u00e0 sua abordagem gradual \u00e0 produ\u00e7\u00e3o de energia e \u00e0 capacidade de serem ligadas em s\u00e9rie para criar um banco de baterias com maior densidade energ\u00e9tica. A liga\u00e7\u00e3o em s\u00e9rie de v\u00e1rias caixas pode aumentar a tens\u00e3o da bateria para suportar o armazenamento solar esperado.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baterias de fluxo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As baterias de fluxo s\u00e3o compostas por dois tanques que partilham uma membrana e c\u00e9lulas eletroqu\u00edmicas. Os fluidos, normalmente ferro ou van\u00e1dio, passam entre estes tanques, gerando eletricidade nas c\u00e9lulas. A capacidade de produ\u00e7\u00e3o de energia \u00e9 diretamente proporcional ao tamanho do tanque. Estas baterias podem fornecer energia durante at\u00e9 10 horas, o que as torna op\u00e7\u00f5es promissoras para microrredes, utiliza\u00e7\u00f5es em servi\u00e7os p\u00fablicos e ve\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos.<br \/>\nEmbora as baterias de fluxo sejam mais caras do que as baterias de i\u00f5es de l\u00edtio devido \u00e0 maior \u00e1rea necess\u00e1ria para as suas bombas de sistema e aos per\u00edodos de carregamento mais longos, t\u00eam v\u00e1rias vantagens.
