Greenvolt Power has brought its first two battery energy storage projects into operation in Japan, with a combined capacity of 4 MW / 8 MWh.
Located in Kyushu, south-western Japan, the two stand-alone projects operate on a merchant basis, generating revenues through participation in electricity markets.
The milestone further expands Greenvolt’s global BESS footprint, with a pipeline of approximately 4.6 GW across Europe, North America and Asia, more than 1 GW of projects under construction or in operation, and over 800 MW sold to date.
Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Power, its utility-scale renewable energy business, has brought its first two battery energy storage systems (BESS) into operation in Japan, marking a further step in strengthening the Group’s presence in Asia.
Located in Kyushu, in south-western Japan, the two stand-alone BESS have a combined power capacity of 4 MW and an energy storage capacity of 8 MWh. They operate on a merchant basis, generating revenues through participation in electricity markets, while contributing to grid flexibility and resilience.
The Japanese projects add to Greenvolt Power’s recent milestones in battery storage. In Poland, the Group completed Ełk and Turośń Kościelna, with a combined capacity of 400 MW / 1.6 GWh, and started construction of the Siedlce project, one of the largest BESS projects in Europe (600 MW / 2.4 GWh). In Hungary, Greenvolt brought Buj, with 99.8 MW / 288.6 MWh of capacity, into operation.
”Bringing our first battery storage projects into operation in Japan is an important step in strengthening Greenvolt’s presence in Asia and further consolidating our global footprint across three continents. With one of the largest BESS pipelines in Europe and around 1 GW of projects under construction or in operation, we are continuing to expand our presence in this sector across our markets.
João Manso NetoCEO of Greenvolt Group
”Japan is another market where Greenvolt Power has successfully brought battery storage projects into operation. We continue to pursue opportunities across the Asian markets where we are present – Japan, South Korea and Indonesia – as growing electricity needs create opportunities to leverage the expertise we have built across different markets and business environments.
Spiros MartinisCEO of Greenvolt International Power
Greenvolt has a BESS pipeline of approximately 4.6 GW across Europe, North America and Asia, with more than 1 GW of projects under construction or in operation and over 800 MW sold to date as part of its asset rotation strategy. Beyond utility-scale projects, battery storage is also becoming an increasingly relevant component of Greenvolt’s on-site distributed generation solutions for businesses across several European markets, complementing solar generation and helping companies manage their energy consumption more flexibly.
