The Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Comunidades, and FC Porto have signed a partnership contract for the development of two Renewable Energy Communities, the Dragão Stadium Community, and the FC Porto Olival Training Center Community.
In total, more than 2,000 solar panels with a combined capacity of about 1,170 kWh will be used, generating over 1,500 MWh per year. The utilization of renewable energy will allow FC Porto to reduce CO2 emissions by 420 tons/year, equivalent to planting almost 20,000 trees. Additionally, 22 chargers will be available in the Dragão Stadium Community to help decarbonize the automotive fleet. The partnership also foresees that in the near future more producers and consumers can join both Communities, allowing them to share clean and cheaper energy with the Club and its neighbors.
According to Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, the leader of FC Porto, “this agreement for the Olival and the Dragão Arena will undoubtedly be very beneficial for both institutions and will definitely benefit the population”.
João Manso Neto, the CEO of Greenvolt Group, noted that “despite being two institutions from completely different sectors, both share the ability to innovate. FC Porto, over the last three or four decades, has completely changed the way sports is viewed, and Greenvolt, within its means, understands that the energy world was changing and that it was not enough to talk about renewables, it was necessary to go further”.
With this agreement, the Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Comunidades, reinforces its leadership in the Energy Communities segment – with over 40 communities, totaling over 30 MWh – contributing to the energy transition goals of the blue and white Club and the cities it is connected to, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
