• Greenvolt Next has secured a €35 million project finance facility, structured in partnership with Millennium bcp, specifically designed to support distributed generation projects in Portugal.
  • The transaction combines the refinancing of a portfolio of more than 120 operational projects, with a total capacity exceeding 30 MWp, and will also support new corporate self-consumption installations.
  • This first-of-its-kind financing in the Portuguese market, and the first within the Greenvolt Group, reinforces the company’s commitment to decentralized renewable energy generation.

Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Next, has secured a €35 million project finance facility, structured in partnership with Millennium bcp, to accelerate the development of distributed renewable energy generation projects in Portugal.

This transaction — the first of its kind in the Portuguese market and also the first within Greenvolt’s Group — combines the refinancing of an existing portfolio of operational projects with additional funding to support the installation of new self-consumption units. In both cases, the projects benefit from long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

The financed portfolio currently comprises more than 120 distributed self-consumption projects across Portugal, with a total installed capacity exceeding 30 MWp. It includes installations ranging from 10 kWp to over 1 MW, serving corporate clients — from SMEs to large multinational companies — across sectors such as industry, logistics, agri-food, hospitality, retail, services, infrastructure, healthcare and the social sector.

This transaction strengthens Greenvolt’s ability to continue expanding in distributed generation and, in doing so, to support more companies through self-consumption solutions. It also reflects the quality of the portfolio we have been building in this segment, whose scale, diversity and robustness now enable structured financing of this nature, paving the way for a new phase of development in this market,”

João Manso NetoCEO of Greenvolt Group

At Millennium bcp, we are committed to advancing the energy transition through innovative financing solutions designed to keep pace with market evolution and new production models. By supporting a portfolio of this size and diversity, we are not only expanding decentralized renewable energy generation, but also strengthening the competitiveness of companies across multiple sectors nationwide,”

Miguel MayaCEO of Millennium bcp

Within the framework of Portugal’s National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 (PNEC 2030), distributed generation is increasingly recognized as a key driver of renewable electrification, energy autonomy and cost predictability, particularly for businesses. However, the expansion of self-consumption remains an area requiring further acceleration to meet 2030 targets, increasing the relevance of transactions capable of scaling this type of project.

Distributed generation is one of Greenvolt Group’s strategic business pillars — alongside Sustainable Biomass and Utility-Scale projects — with operations across 12 European markets, over 365 MW installed capacity and a portfolio of more than 3,300 projects.
