”The real competitive advantage will not come form having to access to Ai (...) It will come from knowing how to combine human talent and technology to transform the renewable energy business, faster and better than everyone else.

We are living through a constant stream of news about Artificial Intelligence. Every week brings a new breakthrough that surpasses the previous one. More powerful models, autonomous agents, digital co-workers, scouts capable of searching, analyzing and synthesizing information in seconds. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and many others are accelerating a technological revolution unlike anything we have seen before.

Yet beyond the excitement surrounding technology, I believe we should be reflecting on three fundamental questions.

How are we going to power the AI revolution?

Every new capability enabled by AI models requires enormous infrastructure behind it: data centres, computing power and, above all, energy.

How do we ensure an electricity supply capable of supporting these growing demands in a reliable, competitive and sustainable way?

The future of AI will depend not only on the evolution of algorithms, but also on our ability to generate sufficient renewable energy to power them sustainably, efficiently and autonomously.

Where should we really apply AI?

The second question is not what AI can do, but where it can create the greatest value.

The temptation to use AI everywhere is enormous. However, the organisations that will benefit the most will be those capable of prioritising:

  • Which processes truly impact EBITDA?
  • Which activities do we need to accelerate?
  • Which decisions can be improved through better data management?
  • Where can we create a sustainable competitive advantage?

An AI implementation strategy is not about doing many things. It is about doing the right things better.

How do we bring people along on this journey?

Technology has never been the main challenge. This time is no different.

The real challenge lies in helping people who have spent years working with established routines and processes transition towards a completely different way of working.

Many of the tasks that consume our time today will be performed by AI assistants and, in many cases, they will do them faster and with fewer errors.

Adoption is built by listening, understanding how people really work, and designing solutions that allow them to spend less time on tasks that AI can perform and more time on activities where human capabilities remain essential: judgement, leadership, negotiation and relationships with customers and stakeholders.

Our vision at Greenvolt

At Greenvolt, one thing is very clear. We were born green.

Our purpose remains the same: to develop, build and operate renewable energy generation assets wind, solar, biomass and battery storage, contributing to a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

But we want to go one step further.

That is why we launched Greenvolt+, a transformation initiative aimed at integrating Artificial Intelligence into our core processes to develop better projects, make better decisions and execute more effectively, accelerating profitable and sustainable growth.

A different approach: start with people

We believe that digital transformation should not be built from technology to people, but from people to technology.

For this reason, we are adopting a bottom-up approach, analysing the day-to-day work of our teams through “One Day in the Life Of” workshops, co-designing with them the ecosystem of intelligent agents that will work alongside them and radically transform how tasks are performed.

From drafting and reviewing documents, to searching for information across multiple repositories, or automatically generating analyses and data models.

We do not start by asking what technology can do.

We start by asking what people need to become more effective.

Renewable Energy + Technology + People

The combination of these three elements is the key to business transformation today.

At Greenvolt, we are already exploring how AI can help us analyse operational data from our plants to optimise performance and maximise renewable energy generation.

The real competitive advantage will not come from having access to AI, because eventually everyone will have it. It will come from knowing how to combine renewable energy, technology and human talent to transform the business faster and better than everyone else.

Those who succeed in doing so will lead the next great economic and industrial transformation.
