Energy Communities
A connection is the beginning of everything. For the creation of Energy Communities (EC), only a solar energy producer and at least one nearby consumer are necessary.
What are Energy Communities?
EC are an energy sharing model that allows citizens, public and private entities to produce, consume and share 100% renewable energy.
In this model, an energy Producer, typically a public or private organization, generates the energy at its own facilities, part of which is self-consumed, and the surplus is shared with local Consumers at a more competitive price.
The primary purpose of EC is to promote sustainable energy practices, decentralize energy production, and foster community engagement in the transition to renewable energy sources.
How do Energy Communities Work?
It all starts with the energy generated by the Producer, usualy through the installation of solar panels in their own facility.
Part of the generated energy will be self-consumed by the Producer, and another part will be shared with the Consumers around them at more competitive prices.
Everyone benefits from clean and cheaper energy.
Benefits of Energy Communities
Environmental
- Enhanced utilization of renewable energy and reduction of CO₂ emissions;
- Accelerating the energy transition and reducing reliance on fossil fuels;
- Decreased consumption from the power grid.
Social
- Democratizing the energy system;
- Fostering community business development;
- Local job creation.
Financial
- Investment opportunities for energy producers
- Access to more affordable energy prices for all Members, Producers and Consumers.
How to Become an Energy Community Member?
Greenvolt is a leading Group in the renewable energy sector, particularly in the development of ECs across various European geographies. Learn how to become part of these communities in Portugal with Greenvolt Comunidades or in other EU Countries with Greenvolt Next.
