Paulina Sibiga
Financial Manager, Greenvolt Power USA

The growth at our company is not limited to traditional career paths. There are diverse, global opportunities available for those who are open to stepping outside the comfort zone.

What motivated you to take on an international assignment, and how did you see it as a step in your professional growth?

Taking on the US Finance Manager position was a natural and exciting step for me, both professionally and personally. I saw it as a unique opportunity to broaden my perspective, challenge myself in a new environment, and continue developing my leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills on a global scale. On a personal level, I’ve always been drawn to experiences that push me out of my comfort zone, and relocating internationally allowed me to grow not only in my career, but also as an individual.

What new skills, perspectives, or experiences have you gained from working in a different cultural and business environment?

One of the most impactful perspectives I’ve gained is how strongly collaboration and inclusion are embedded in the US team. I noticed that brainstorming and open dialogue are truly encouraged, every voice matters, regardless of role or seniority. In challenging situations, there’s a strong “all hands on deck” approach. That collective responsibility builds real trust within the team. I’ve also come to value how much emphasis is placed on recognizing achievements and celebrating success as a team. Instead of focusing solely on what still needs to be done, people take the time to acknowledge progress, which has a very positive effect on motivation and team morale.

How has this experience shaped your view of development opportunities at Greenvolt?

This experience has shown me that Greenvolt truly supports international mobility and cross-cultural learning, which I now see as a powerful part of its development strategy. Being given the opportunity to take on a role in a different country reinforced my belief that the growth at our company is not limited to traditional career paths. There are diverse, global opportunities available for those who are open to stepping outside the comfort zone.

This broad view of the Company is also enriching in a multicultural way by having the opportunity to work with many countries and people with different backgrounds and experiences.

What motivated you to take on a role in a different function, and how did you see it contributing to your career growth?

I studied Mechanical Engineering with a little focus on Renewable Energy. For this reason, naturally, the technical part of these technologies and innovations are what drives me, especially BESS, that is so complex and with a massive opportunity for technology advancement. From that point, I started looking at the different Greenvolt departments to understand if something could accommodate this interest and after the creation of my current department (June 2024) the opportunity appeared. Before this chance appeared, I actually had an example within the company of successful Mobility, Gonçalo Botelho. He helped me during the search process, sharing good points of view.

What new perspectives or skills did you gain from working in a different area of the business?

It is quite a big change in terms of the knowledge necessary to work in this new role. I believe I had to improve my organizational skills, due to the demanding level of detail needed. Not wanting to be general, but communication and social skills were also areas that had to be developed to cope with many internal departments.
This broad view of the Company is also enriching in a multicultural way by having the opportunity to work with many countries and people with different backgrounds and experiences, which requires flexibility, empathy and patience.

How has this experience shaped your view of development opportunities at Greenvolt?

I think my experience showed that the internal Mobility is a possibility to be considered. The development opportunities at Greenvolt have been growing and sharing my experience on Functional Mobility is crucial to let other colleagues know that this is a great option.

Working in a completely different culture represents a unique opportunity to widen my perspective, and I think it can ultimately make me a better professional.

What motivated you to take on this dual transition—changing both your role and country—and how did you view it as a step forward in your career?

The main driver for me to embark on this journey has been the chance to face a new challenge that is both personal and professional.
Working in a completely different culture represents a unique opportunity to widen my perspective, and I think it can ultimately make me a better professional.

What were the biggest challenges you faced in adapting to a new leadership role in a completely different cultural and business environment, and how did you grow from them?

In Japan and Korea, there is a whole set of unwritten norms of communication and behavior that are a substantial part of a transaction/negotiation. I needed to adapt to a new form of doing business together with different timelines and expectations. Things eventually happen, but not in the way and timeline you’d expect, hence trust your colleagues and team while you learn how the system works.

How has this experience shaped your view of development opportunities at Greenvolt?

I have been given a great personal and professional opportunity here at GV and experienced on my own skin how much our management is willing to invest in the talent we have in-house.
